It has been a real team effort here at Wolverhampton Harley-Davidson to produce our entry for Battle of the Kings. Together we have dedicated time and effort to make what we think is great design.
When told we would be let loose on customising an 883 Iron, we could think of nothing else. Our Custom King, Andrew Lockitt, owns a Harley Sportster so this was going to be great for him to manage. As a team we wanted to do something different yet practical.
Given that there is wealth of options on how to customise the Iron; it was difficult to agree on how we wanted the bike to look and feel. It was when we were all out riding on our Monday day off that the answer came. A couple of the guys ride adventure-style motorcycles and some of the roads we ride get a bit muddy and rutted. The little Sportster was coping perfectly well and keeping up with the adventure bikes no problem until things got really muddy. It was then the answer came to us! We realised a scrambler-style Sportster with long travel suspension and knobbly tyres would suit the Iron. We set to work...
